Our technical knowledge is built through years of experience and strengthened by close collaboration with contractors and site teams. Working on live projects gives us direct insight into evolving best practice, lessons learned and where risks can arise.

Building Safety

Commitment

CZWG welcomes the increased focus on building safety within the construction industry following the Grenfell tragedy. Our Quality Management system based on ISO9001 has the processes in place to enable us to provide a professional service focused on collaboration and communication between CZWG, the client and the rest of the design team.

To ensure we do all that we can to provide the safest homes possible, our health and safety team has worked very closely with industry experts to keep clients and the practice up to date with all current legislative changes, as well as the new technologies that become available.

Higher-Risk Buildings

Projects that we work on include higher-risk buildings (HRBs), with complex safety considerations. Communication with our Clients and Contractors is essential in managing the associated risks. We are experienced at identifying complexities that can be designed out to improve safety and future maintenance. Our internal audit process identifies coordination issues and practical solutions for construction efficiency and value.

CZWG have been appointed to safety remediation projects, taking Lead Consultant and Principal Designer roles - coordinating specialist consultant teams to resolve complex building safety issues on existing buildings.

Principal Designer Role

We provide Principal Designer services under both the CDM Regulations and the Building Regulations, including for Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs), giving clients clear leadership, coordinated decision-making and confidence throughout project delivery.

The practice has been inspected by the CQMS Safety Scheme and is a SSiP accredited Designer. All RIBA architects within the practice have taken and passed the RIBA Health and Life Safety Test and each director has taken the RIBA Principal Designer Course.

David Donachie, as Director leading the construction and delivery arm of the business, has also successfully completed courses run by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health on safety management and is a regular attendee of H&S conferences and seminars.

Quality management and Coordination

Our Strong quality management systems and coordination processes are essential to health and safety. They are also critical to the efficient delivery of buildings, benefitting clients at all stages, from design, project management on-site and post-occupation management.
