CZWG at Docklands

Biography of a Building in a Place

CZWG welcomed Laura Nica and her students from the University of Westminster School of Architecture + Cities for a talk exploring the architectural history and development of Butler’s Wharf and the wider Docklands area.

Focusing on Shad Thames, the discussion examined key case studies surrounding CZWG’s listed China Wharf and The Circle. Piers offered insight into the ideas underpinning these projects, tracing a shared vision for extravagant, celebratory and optimistic architecture back to the work on the client’s own home. This ambition extended to the wider masterplan for Jacobs Island, an unrealised vision whose architectural legacy remains evident in the distinctive presence of C’Reeds Wharf.

We hope the visit supported the studio’s research this semester and wish all the students the very best with their projects.
