East Riverside featured in the Architects' Journal
CZWG has released images of East Riverside, a major mixed-use scheme next to the River Lea in east London. The project won planning permission from local authority Tower Hamlets late last year. It includes 530 flats housed in three cylindrical towers of varying heights, the retention of five arches of the old Poplar tram depot, a new public square and improved public access to the river. The housing is 35 per cent affordable, comprised of 65 shared ownership units, 44 ‘Tower Hamlets living rent’ and 45 London affordable rented housing.
Practice Director Piers Gough said: “CZWG have a history of reinterpreting industrial riverside structures for residential use. …At Leven Road the towers are like well-oiled ribbed cooling cylinders of some imaginary industrial process”. Read full article.
