Piers Gough CBE RA | Building Beauty Awards

CZWG director Piers Gough CBE RA has been announced as one of the 2023 panel of judges for the Building Beauty Awards. Launched by The Royal Fine Art Commission Trust last year, the Building Beauty Awards celebrate buildings, engineering structures, public spaces and small physical interventions (‘Little Gems’) that make a neighbourhood a jollier place to be.

The awards will be chaired by one of Britain’s foremost design critics, Stephen Bayley Hon FRIBA and presented by award-winning poet, novelist and artist Ben Okri. Joining Piers on the judging panel are architectural commentator Paul Finch OBE, founding Principal of Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands Architects Alex Lifschutz, BAFTA award-winning artist, photographer and filmmaker Alison Jackson, and co-founder of engineering practice AKT II Professor Hanif Kara OBE.

‘Beauty in buildings is topical, and rightly so. The National Planning Policy Framework has been revised to give councils more power to reject applications on aesthetic grounds. Whether a building is beautiful really does affect whether it gets built’.
