This is an example of the close and collaborative effort between the entire project team and is a testament to the commitment of Redrow, Grosvenor and Oxford City Council to delivering much needed homes in a sustainable community. Our carefully considered design is integrated into the existing neighbourhood to create a new exemplar ‘21st century garden suburb'. We are really pleased to be involved with the delivery of new housing for Oxford.

Barton Park aspires to deliver a vibrant new community that will help stimulate regeneration in adjoining neighbourhoods. An exemplar 21st century garden suburb, the development is one of the most advanced NHS England Healthy New Town demonstrator sites. Phase 3 is the least dense neighbourhood within Barton Park and provides a sensitive interface with its surroundings. CZWG have designed a coherent range of new housing typologies for Redrow, totalling 195 three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses and 12 apartments. The distinctive house designs draw inspiration from architectural features found locally, with six character areas responding to immediate context, transitioning between earlier more urban phases of Barton Park and the adjacent suburban neighbourhood of Barton.

The houses are laid out around a permeable network of shared-surface streets and ‘pocket parks’, attractive to pedestrians and cyclists whilst eliminating vehicular through-routes. The public realm is inspired by the local productive landscape, with a planting strategy which includes the use of edible fruits, herbaceous perennials and herbs. The homes and streetscape support the use of more sustainable transport modes, helping residents to live healthier, more active lives, enjoying integrated green spaces and community facilities. All homes are designed to maximise benefit from the surrounding green and verdant landscape.
