Located in the historic Roman town of Dorchester, Brewery Square is an extensive mixed-use redevelopment of the former 4.6ha Eldridge Pope Brewery. Situated between Dorchester’s historic market and the main London line station at Dorchester South, the masterplan comprises 662 new homes, a new high quality civic square, shops, restaurants, a cinema, medical centre and a new station. CZWG designed the masterplan and 24 new buildings and, in collaboration with Conran & Partners, who were commissioned to work on the restoration of the listed buildings, secured full planning consent in November 2007. CZWG were subsequently retained to maintain the design standards throughout delivery of the construction programme on behalf of the client.

Phases 1 and 2A of the masterplan were delivered in 2009 and 2013, including ‘Brewery Square’, the large central civic open space at the heart of the development. Phase 2B consists of a cluster of five new buildings: The Cooperage, The Keg Store, The Barley Building, Hop House and Copper Crescent, each with its own unique identity, creating a rich diversity in a very high quality hard and soft landscaped urban setting. The latest piece to come to fruition in this thriving new quarter, Phase 2B is formed of 131 apartments with private terraces and communal gardens above 2,380m² of retail and commercial facilities.
