BA(Hons) | AADip

James’ project experience spans new build, innovative high-density housing, workplaces and leisure use buildings with a more recent emphasis on mixed-use schemes and development frameworks. He led the design proposals for Lewes Riverside Phoenix Quarter in East Sussex, the Bournemouth Pavilion and Gardens cultural and leisure facilities, the Brighton Marina mixed-use development of 273 apartments, 3,700m² of retail space and a clifftop leisure unit, and a development framework for a 17-hectare riverside site in Stratford, East London. He also led the delivery of Poplar Baths and Dame Colet, totalling 140 affordable homes delivered for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Guildmore in Poplar, and has overseen several feasibility and planning proposals for small-scale residential schemes in North London.

James is particularly interested in the regulatory and policy frameworks for planning and placemaking, and the relationships between the forms of development - be it layout, scale, massing or materials - and the characteristics that create successful places.
